Sustainability Programs

We demonstrate our leadership in sustainable building operations by developing relationships with sustainable partners and suppliers; implementing innovative energy conservation, water usage, and waste reduction initiatives; and measuring and reporting improved operational performance. We will continue our efforts to improve our company's status in the broader commercial real estate industry.

Sustainability Team

Parkway has a full-time dedicated sustainability team with decades of experience with corporate sustainability and LEED certification initiatives. Our sustainability team is focused on benchmarking Parkway's eligible buildings on ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, pursuing LEED certification as feasible and implementing a robust corporate sustainability program across the portfolio.

Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Parkway has made a commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance into all facets of our business. To help us achieve our ESG goals we have developed a centralized Environmental Management System (EMS) platform that helps us effectively manage all key components of our programs.

30% Plumbing Efficiency Rate and Reduction in Water Consumption

Reduce water use intensity (WUI) by 30% across the portfolio

Reduce Waste and Increase in Water Diversion to 75%

20% Increase in Native Vegetation

Increase native and drought-resistant vegetation by 20%

90% Green Cleaning Products

Use 90% green cleaning products

90 or higher Energy Star and reduce energy consumption by 20%

Partnerships

Partnering with leading sustainability organizations provides Parkway with the resources and industry knowledge necessary to deliver exceptional results and enance our sustainability program. We work closely with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR for Buildings program, USGBC Local Chapters, BOMA’s Sustainability Committee, the Greenprint Performance Committee, and the local and Federal Better Buildings Challenge programs. Parkway supports local environmental organizations and is frequently invited to participate in industry initiatives and discussions.

Parkway has benchmarked most of its portfolio with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool in order to measure and increase energy efficiency. We also strive to pursue annual ENERGY STAR labels for all eligible buildings on an annual basis. In 2014, Parkway became a Premier Member of U.S. EPA's new Certification Nation.

Parkway is involved with many local BOMA chapters throughout the country. In addition, Parkway’s Head of Sustainability is a member of the BOMA/GLA Sustainability Committee created to educate and inform BOMA/GLA members on techniques, trends, and methods related to energy efficiency, sustainable practices, and all aspects of green buildings.

Parkway is a USGBC National Member and participates in several local chapters. In 2015, Parkway enrolled in USGBC’s LEED Volume Program. Most of Parkway's properties are currently LEED certified. We continue to track our LEED recertification annually. Parkway's Head of Sustainability sits on USGBC's Advisory Council Facility Management and Operations.

As a member of its Advisory Board and Performance Committee, Parkway is part of a worldwide alliance of real estate owners, investors, financial institutions, and other industry stakeholders committed to reducing carbon emissions across the global property industry. The ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance is a dedicated center of research and programming at the Urban Land Institute.

Better Buildings Challenge

Parkway made the commitment in 2014 to decrease energy consumption by 20% across our portfolio from 2013 levels by 2023 as part of the Federal Better Buildings Challenge.

Reporting

As part of our robust Corporate Sustainability programs, Parkway has implemented sustainability policies portfolio-wide, posts annual sustainability reports in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, and participates in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).
